Principal's Weekly Message

Principal's Message 9/20-24
Cornerstone at Pedregal
September 20-24
Hello Cornerstone Families,

Happy Friday!  I want to say thank you for your patience and support this week with our first COVID case.  We responded quickly and followed through with the appropriate protocol and guidelines.  Like the Cornerstone family we are, everyone rallied to support each other!  Thank you.  We had a successful Spirit Award Assembly outside with all students grouped by class, then grade level.  Similar to recess, students remained masked and with their groups.  I am so proud of our Cornerstone Cougars earning their ABC award for Acting Safely.  Next month will focus on Being Responsible.  Please see important notes below.

All my best,
Dr. A
Please see our video about acting safely from Mrs. Jocelyne Lopez HERE We had some technical difficulties with the assembly video, so it is a bit choppy.  We will make adjustments to improve next time.  Assembly Video

COVID Updates:
We will continue to follow the LA County Department of Public Health guidelines and protocols.
  • Please alert your teacher and me if there is an exposure or positive test.
  • Do not send students to school if they have symptoms.
  • Be sure to answer the Green Screen questions thoughtfully.  We need to protect each other and our families.
  • Updated Travel Guidance from the LACDPH can be found here. These are recommendations, not requirements.
  • PVPUSD COVID information is found HERE.  Resources can be found under the COVID 19 tab on the right.
  • If there is exposure, there is a process we follow:
    • “Close contacts” are required to quarantine and will be contacted ASAP.  This includes classroom close contacts and playground close contacts.
    • The rest of the class is then notified, but not required to quarantine.
    • The whole school will receive notification that there has been a case on campus.
  • Quarantine guidelines for asymptomatic students after exposure:
    • Quarantine.  Students can return at day 8 if they received a negative test from a healthcare provider or testing site with an FDA authorized COVID 19 test collected on day 6. If no test was done, they return on day 10 and continue to monitor for symptoms through day 14.
    • If the student has symptoms or a positive test, quarantine is 10 days + 24 hours without fever-reducing medications.
    • A quarantine code is used for the quarantine absences.

PEF is partnering with Gizmogo, to collect and recycle old cell phones, laptops, monitors, drones, televisions, game consoles, and other e-waste.  At the end of the collection, Gizmogo will give back to PEF based on what is collected, but will donate a minimum of $2,000 to PEF in support of our schools.
